About Counselling and Psychotherapy.
There are a great many different types of counselling and psychotherapy and it can be rather confusing trying to decide what the best way forward might be. My expertise is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, often called "Talking Therapy" which involves meeting with you once or twice a week and, after an initial discussion, devoting time to understanding what is going on for you. We then think together about how your life is affected by experiences, old and new, as well as by relationships that are significant. The relationship we build as client and therapist is one of trust and commitment. As your therapist, I am there for you at our appointed time every week.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy. This is a highly evidence-based therapy involving the use of eye movements, to process memories and help with healing. It is used in the treatment of trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD. It is also beneficial for treating anxiety and depression, along with many other conditions.
What conditions can it help?
Very few of us go through life without experiencing anxiety, loss, depression or self-doubt at some point. It is part of being human. Psychotherapy can help us to cope and to build inner resilience and well-being. We may have experienced trauma and have found ways to carry on, until at some point, we find ourselves no longer able to do so. Some of the conditions that psychotherapy can help with include depression, anxiety, bereavement, betrayal, and career dilemmas, as well as issues around intimate and family relationships and friendships.
