Qualified and experienced psychotherapist and EMDR therapist based in Angel and Holloway North London

Welcome to my website.
This may be the first time that you have explored the world of psychotherapy, or you may be thinking of returning to therapy, having experienced some form in the past. Whichever is your situation, I hope that you will find something of interest here, and that you will feel free to contact me via my email address.

My name is Fionnuala O'Donnell and I offer psychotherapy and counselling to adults of all ages who come to me for help. I see clients both in-person and over Zoom and telephone. My practices in Holloway and Angel, North London, are convenient locations for people living and working in London. Both are within 10 minutes walk from the tube and rail services and are serviced by a good supply of buses.

You may be feeling distress, perhaps due to a situation which has left you unable to cope in the usual way. Or, you may have had concerns about your mental health for some time, and have decided to look for help instead of struggling on alone. I provide a safe and confidential space in which to talk, and explore emotions, a place to take time to think about who you are and what you want from life in a way that is often not easy in our day-to-day lives.

You may have a broad network of friends and family, or perhaps you are feeling isolated and lonely. Whichever might be the case, there are times when we need to work with a psychotherapist who is well-trained and can offer a safe and private place to work through our emotions and find balance in our lives. I work with individuals on a long or short-term term basis, to suit the unique needs of each person. I work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds on issues such as depression, anxiety, bereavement, low self-esteem, career dilemmas, relationship issues, sexuality, addiction and trauma. Many of my clients have moved to London from other countries - often due to work or education requirements - and dealing with the issues that arise when we move our homes is an area that frequently comes up in the work that I do. Of course, a list such as that above might seem to suggest that issues present themselves clearly and discretly, whereas the reality may be a complex web of problems or issues that we need to tackle.

I trained over a five year period at WPF Therapy in London. I came to this training after a life-long interest in our minds and our emotional lives, and my former experience as a teacher and a manager in the education sector have given me solid life-experience. I have also worked in the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust where I provided counselling and psychotherapy to patients referred through the NHS. Like all accredited psychotherapists I continue to engage in professional development and enjoy keeping abreast of current research.

I have also had a training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy which is used in the treatment of trauma as well as in treating other issues. This can be a specific therapy in its own right, but I also use it, when it is helpful to do so, alongside the traditional psychotherapy that I practise.

Feel free to get in touch. I appreciate how hard it can be to take that first step and how important it is for you to feel that you are working with the right person. For this reason, I offer an initial consultation where you can decide if the fit feels right for you. If we do decide to work together you can be sure of a compassionate and committed professional to help you on your journey. Psychotherapy can offer the relief of being heard and understood, sometimes for the first time. The relief of finding a place in which to explore thoughts and feelings in safety can be immense and life-altering. Psychotherapy takes time and commitment, and I will work together with you to help make changes in your life. The journey we take when we explore our inner world in therapy can be exciting, it can be challenging, but is always worthwhile.
